University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN): All A Student Needs To Know


The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) was established in 1995 by Nnamdi Azikiwe as a higher institution in the country. Currently ranked by webometrics as the 10th Best University in Nigeria and 4,100th in the world, the Philosophy of the University is to seek truth, teach truth and preserve truth while her Motto is to restore the Dignity of Man. Her Vision Statement is to create a functional, globally competitive & research-focused University which is not just an Ivory Tower, but responsive to the needs of the society, while delivering World-class education and knowledge.

Her Mission Statement is to place UNN in the forefront of research and development, innovation, knowledge, transfer and human resources development in the global academic terrain, while promoting the core values which will ensure the restoration of the dignity of man.


The Federal University which is located in Enugu State, Nigeria was formally opened on the 7th of October, 1960 with an enrollment of 220 students and 13 members of academic staff. UNN has four campuses which are located in Nsukka, Enugu and Ituku-Ozalla in Enugu State; and Aba in Abia State. The University Teaching Hospital is located in Ituku-Ozalla. The University consists of 15 Faculties and 102 departments.
The current Vice Chancellor of UNN is Professor Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba. The University has a Staff Strength of 1,519 and about 36,000 students.


Faculties

The faculties include Agriculture, Arts, Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Dentistry and Education. Other faculties include Engineering, Environmental Studies, Health Sciences & Technology, Law, Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.

Admission Into University Of Nigeria Nsukka

The steps for gaining admission into UNN are similar to other higher institutions in the country. Prospective students are expected to have their WAEC and NECO results with at least 5 credits in English language, Mathematics and at least 3 other subjects relevant to the course the student intends to study.

The student is also expected to write the UTME examination with a minimum score of 180. The student then writes Post UTME organized by the University and is expected to get the cut-off mark of the course he intends to study.
